Some of the most common things I hear, when booking a dog session, is “my dog can be a little crazy.” Or, “my dog is not that well behaved”. Or, “he can not be off his leash in the park”. Enter in THIS session, with the owners of the St. Petersburg, Sit Means Sit Dog Training! Six dogs? Piece of cake! Capturing all their tricks and commands was an absolute DREAM!
On the other stuff? 97% of the dogs I photograph are not trained like this! Can a dog session be pure chaos? Absolutely, but I think you would be surprised to know that MOST of the time, it is anything but. And the leash? Well…they are ALWAYS leashed, unless we are shooting in an enclosed area! Leashes are removed in editing, along with feet, hands and people. Your dog doesn’t even know sit? You would be surprised at how fast a dog can learn sit with a tasty treat and how quickly I can gain their attention. My second language? I speak dog. WOOF!
The one thing I would say about photographing dogs and animals in general? You better LOVE it! Not just a little, LOVE it with all of your being!! Because if you do not, the first time you sit in poop (yep, done that), get licked right in the mouth (check), lay in red ants( check, check), get knocked down (check, check, check), or get humped ( 4 checks!)… you will be running for the hills! If you LOVE what you do, you will just keep on keeping on. WOOF!
